Mass of Saint Monica is a setting of the Catholic Mass Ordinary for use during the season of Lent. The setting includes a Penitential Act with Invocations, Sanctus, Memorial Acclamations A/B/C, Great Amen, and Lamb of God. An accompanying Gospel Acclamation with melodic, through-composed verses for each Sunday of the season across the three-year cycle is available separately from GIA Publications (Item # G-11280).
I composed Mass of Saint Monica with the intention that that it draw the congregation into a more penitent and prayerful encounter during Lenten liturgies. The work's namesake was chosen in honor of Saint Monica, whose fervent devotion to God and deep prayer life is a wonderful model for us, particularly during Lent.
